Castel is a French-American hybrid created by plant breeder Pierre Castel in 1906, crossing Cinsault and Vitis Rupestris. The wine is rich, dense and deeply pigmented, offering inviting aromas of spice, layered with notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum.
Bold and expressive, this wine has a medium body, a balanced palate of ripe fuite and integrated tannins.
As a bolder red, Castel is especially well suited to guilled beef, game meats, caramelized onions and roasted root vegetables.
